“The Ballad of Cassie Gaines” & “The In-Between”

Bama Sound releases two new singles that showcase the Montgomery creative co-op's range and storytelling depth. "The Ballad of Cassie Gaines," inspired by the character in the Bama Sound Media novella Meridian (coming soon), takes listeners on an up-tempo journey through the afterlife, told from the perspective of Cassie's restless spirit. With Cameron DuBois delivering haunting vocals over Bill Hinds' cinematic arrangement—complete with orchestral flourishes and a driving guitar solo—Rick Hansen's songwriting gives voice to a ghost who won't be forgotten.

"The In-Between" shifts the mood entirely, exploring isolation through jazz-inflected alternative pop. Co-written by Lacy Lynn, Rick Hansen, and Bill Hinds, the track captures what it means to exist in life's liminal spaces—those moments between connection and solitude, purpose and drift. DuBois' performance perfectly conveys the melancholy beauty of a lonely life, supported by Hinds' lush production that blends bossa nova touches with orchestral elements. Both singles are available now on Bandcamp.
